Tips
- Give every painter the same scope sheet: each room, ceiling height (call out the tall sanctuary ceiling), and which surfaces. Ask for separate prices for interior, exterior trim and pressure washing.
- Put the materials in writing: who buys the paint, brand/line, sheen, primer + 2 coats.
- Lead paint: the building is from 1972, before the 1978 lead-paint ban. Ask painters to test before sanding or scraping and to be EPA RRP (lead-safe) certified, especially for the nursery and toddler rooms.
- Define prep (patching, caulking, moving pews), schedule around Sunday/Wednesday services, and ask for insurance certificates, church/commercial references, dates, a payment schedule with no large deposit, and the warranty.
